Emergency Preparedness: Not Just for Natural Disasters

We all know how important it is to be prepared in the event of a natural disaster—wildfires, earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, and the like. However, preparedness is important not just for forces of nature, but for things like economic instability as well. From 2009 to 2012, the world has experienced the greatest recession since the Great Depression, and personal preparedness in times of economic hardship can determine the extent to which the recession affects you and those you love.

In the event of a family crisis like job loss or other difficulties, having a supply of food and other essentials and a little bit of money put away can last you through the hard times. Being prepared cushions the blow of reduced or nonexistent income and gives you peace of mind until you can get back on your feet.

Some economic emergency preparedness tips:

-Build up food storage with what your family likes and eats normally in addition to your base storage of Guardian’s high-quality and delicious long-term food storage products.

-Buy a few extra things every time you go to the store, especially when things are on sale: extra cans of food, toilet paper, toothpaste, waterbottles, and so on.

-Save money. Easier said than done, you might say. But you can build up your savings little by little by paying yourself a predetermined amount into your savings account every time you get a paycheck.

Great advice! Buying a little every month also prevents your food stockpile from expiring all at the same time. Not to mention being a little easier on the pocketbook.
